Last week in London the heads of domestic security services from the United Stated and Britain issued a stern warning to business leaders about the threats posed by Chinese espionage.
This should come as no surprise… there have been many Chinese spying incidents recently, such as the disclosure of a hack on Microsoft’s hosted email infrastructure last month and the discovery of malware hidden in various US military systems.
The scale and level sophistication by Chinese hackers cannot be underestimated, said both Christopher Wray, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Ken McCallum, the director-general of MI5. China is laser-focused on doing whatever it can to obtain (steal) intellectual property.
According to an article in The Wall street Journal, China is engaged in “a coordinated campaign on a grand scale” that represents “a strategic contest across decades,” explained Mr. McCallum.
