The United States is by far the largest investor in space innovation including satellites, communications systems, and related technologies.  Organizations involved in the space technology ecosystem, especially those based in the United States, are key targets of spies, hackers, and foreign intelligence entities (FIEs).

Last month, the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, the FBI, and the US Air Force in a joint announcement stated FIEs are continuously probing to find security holes in commercial space technology companies, and their respective hardware and software systems that are deployed in orbit.

Put simply, space technology organizations must rethink how they safeguard their intellectual property and sensitive information.

According to an article in The Register, the United States government offered several measures for organizations to protect themselves, including:

  • Lock down the IT infrastructure that protects intellectual property
  • Vet all employees with access to sensitive data
  • Setup up an insider threat monitoring program
  • Develop an “anomaly log” to track potentially malicious activities, which could be a sign of compromise or theft
  • Perform due diligence on potential suppliers and investors

Every day there is a new threat or attack, many of which are aimed to compromise phone calls and video conversations as well as text messages, especially if third-party apps like WhatsApp and Signal are being used.  In many cases, these apps offer a false sense of security and an easy way to infiltrate an enterprise.

Our QTel™ (formerly Qphone) combines end-to-end encryption, advanced security features, and a unique, private install to allow organizations to lock down their communications – ensuring only authorized users can converse and exchange messages. Thus, details related to intellectual property are protected.

As spies, hackers, and FIEs roam the digital world looking for soft targets, QTel offers a comprehensive solution to eliminate the risk of your communications being compromised.
